Macro: Scooped

Happy Halloween!

Check out more Halloween fun below!

"In this town we call home / Everyone hail to the pumpkin song"

Last night at trunk-or-treat, I was able to take a bunch of pictures, particularly of Ruth & Grant's kids since they hung out with us at our car. Don't you love Halloween?

I think I've become the official photographer for Ruth & Grant's family.

With kids this cute, I think I'm okay with that. :)

At the end of the night, all of our candy was sadly gone, which was too bad. We bought the good stuff!

It was a wonderful, festive time. I'm beyond excited the holidays are upon us. Matt actually just put on Christmas music...maybe that's a bit criminal, but it feels so right right now.

But back to the present holiday, Happy Halloween!

Macro: Current

Not to go fishing for comments or anything, but I'm slightly hurt that yesterday's photo didn't get any comments. Seriously, this is one of my favorite photos to date! Do you love it? Please tell me if you do! I need validation!!

Aaaaaand scene.

On a less dramatic note, I really do love yesterday's photo and you should, too. :) I'm in the process of writing a blog about this, but please don't ever feel like you can't comment simply because you don't have anything technical to say. If you love it, that's all you need to say. I sincerely appreciate every comment you guys give!

P.S. On an unrelated note, when searching for a water-related title for this photo, I can across this on Wikipedia. Wow. I hope that gets the job done?

Macro: Bramble

Many of you have probably wondered where I've been these past few days.

No, I'm not dead, nor is this photo challenge.

I've been in Las Vegas celebrating the blessed union of my best friend. And since the city of sin tries to bilk you for anything you've got no matter where you go, Matt & I refused to give in and therefore did not choose to pay $9 a day to use the internet in our hotel room. Bastards.

I'm now back at home and somewhat recovered from the experience of Vegas, and I've fully caught up on my photo posting. Be sure to check out all of the posts below!

Macro: Bubbles

My soul having been sufficiently sucked out, I left Las Vegas feeling quite uninspired and exhausted. Therefore, I didn't take any photos on Saturday.

Here's a photo I took at my best friend's Vegas wedding, however. More crazy Vegas stories to come!

Macro: Aureum

I am in love with the above photo, and I can say this because I didn't actually take it.

Matt took this photo at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. It's gorgeous, right? The color combination, as you know now, is one I adore. The texture he captured on the gold flowers is amazing.

And because of all of this, I decided to grant him the coveted (ha!) photo-of-the-day status.

And just for kicks, here's a photo that I took in the same garden at the Bellagio.

Macro: Iris & Marigold

The color combination of mustard yellow & deep purple is one of my favorites and one which I frequently wear. And although I had another photo that was an overall better composition, I couldn't let this beautiful combination of colors go unnoticed today.

Macro: Typesetter

I apologize for another spider photo (if that makes you squirmy). He just appeared, and I couldn't help but photograph him. The lighting was perfect, and the wonderful textured background made for a marvelous setting.

Wouldn't you agree?

Macro: Spinning

I guess I chose badly for this month? Only one comment received so far on any of my macro photos...have I lost all of you?!

In times like these, I think my thoughts and feelings would best be expressed by The Flight of the Conchords:

Macro: Ring out

Oh man, oh man, does this picture have a story. I'll spell out in detail at another time, but it has taken me over an hour to try to get this photo up on my blog with rounded corners without the white background showing through.

Seriously, I'm exhausted, frustrated, and seriously disappointed in both Picasa and Flickr for not supporting this type of image properly.

Gah! I'm off to bed. And I don't even love this photo as much as I did an hour ago.

Sad face.

Macro: Fallen

October: Big month, small theme

October is finally here! It feels absolutely wonderful to finally be rid of Houston's nasty heat and humidity. Fall is definitely my favorite here.

With the change in seasons, of course, comes a change in themes. This last month has been one of my favorite months thus far.

I discovered that I love the freedom of being able to shoot whatever subject I want, as long it as fits the theme.

Shooting particular subjects feels restricting, and while I think it's still a good idea to challenge myself and go outside of my comfort zone, shooting within themes rather than subjects is definitely what I prefer.

Finding blue to shoot for the past month has been a beautiful experience, and not just because I was able to shoot both water and sky, but because blue, while being the cliche 'favorite' color, truly is a wonderful color.

It's a wonderful mix of boldness and subtlety, a color that can smack you in the face but at the same time, fade nicely into the background. This is probably because it's a color we see most every day by simply looking up. Blue is always surrounding us, and perhaps we miss out on it's bold beauty because of that.

What does October hold for me? Well, take a look at the photo above for a hint.

Macro!

I don't think it's at all a secret that I love shooting macro images. It's probably my favorite photographic medium.

As a photographer, trying to create 'new art' from behind the lens is a process that one natural finds their way through as they follow their artistic and creative instincts. For me, I have felt most satisfied with my image-making when I am able to show the world a view we naturally don't see. Our eyes cannot zoom in as closely as a camera lens does.

The challenge I will find this month is to not fill the month with nature photos, as I did in April. Naturally, of course, shooting nature and macro go hand in hand. You'll definitely be seeing more flowers, buds, bugs, etc. this month, but my hope is to find more interesting and unexpected subjects in the macro world to shoot.

Come back tonight for more macro!
