telluride

what do you get when you throw a bunch of pot-smoking hippies, amazing bluegrass music, & expensive merchandise all together at 9,000 feet?

the telluride bluegrass festival!yep, that's where i was this past weekend. and i really can't find the words to describe it's awesomness. i think it was pretty close to a life-changing experience...and matt & i both got to meet bela fleck! and we both made him chuckle!
the town itself was absolutely beautiful, as you can see, and it sits in a 3-sided valley that's only escapeable by the road you came in on or by gondola over the mountain. your choice.
some of the highlights included seeing chris thile wickedly play some bach, basking in the awesomeness that is bela fleck during two workshops, and seeing edgar meyer play his double bass like it was nothing. it was just plain amazing. no words.
and now, you must change your life. look up these artists. trust me, you won't regret it:

  • bela fleck & edgar meyer - "music for two"
  • anything else bela fleck you can find (who knew the banjo was so cool & versitile!)
  • abagail washburn
  • the sparrow quartet, with bela fleck & abagail washburn
  • uncle earl
  • cadillac sky
  • chris thile
also watching & listening to matt play his cello in his bluegrass band is pretty life changing. he totally wasted most of his bow one night and then incredibly broke a string. but it was worth it, all in the name of bluegrass!

indiana jones & the commies, round 1

so i've been meaning to share my thoughts regarding the highly anticipated movie of the spring/summer, "white chicks 2."

no! wait...that will have to wait until next year. sigh.

but seriously, how about "indiana jones & the kingdom of the crystal skull"? it's what i've been waiting for just about all of my life...
bottom line: loved it

corny title: yes.

corny parts: yeah, unfortunately.

mixed/made up archaeological history of meso and south america: check.

classic indy sarcasm: you betcha.

great indy action scenes: awesome.

great indy action scene where he just shoots the guy: negative.

ark of the covenant shot: there, and i'm still alive to tell the tale.

people dissolving/burning/being eaten by ants: holy crap! i had no idea ants could be that aggressive!

nazis: gone.

commies: everywhere.

some lovin': who couldn't love that man?!

help from exotic creatures who know their way through the jungle: always necessary.

indy line that sums up the whole move at the end but actually doesn't make any sense when you think about it: check.

overall message: all nature hates communists.

recommendation: definitely worth your money and time, but don't bring snakes. indy hates snakes.

june is for joy

there was an awesome rainbow that formed right up against the mountains last night, & for some reason, it really took me back to my childhood &, more specifically, all of the fire flies that would fly around the yard all summer. we'd try to catch them in our hands & put them into jars, but at the end of the night, those suckers were hard to catch & hold on to. but we tried anyways.

i spent a long time, perhaps too long some might say, chasing a dream, and, well...all i can say is that it was well worth it, more worth it than i thought it was ever going to be. and that, my friends, is joy.
